Wallraf Richartz Museum BICCI (Lorenzo di Bicci, Bicci di Lorenzo, Neri di Bicci) Lorenzo di Bicci (1350-1427) est le père de Bicci di Lorenzo (1373-1452) et le grand père de Neri di Bicci (1458-1492). Ils ont été actifs à Florence dans la second moitié du 15è siècle. Ils appartiennent à l'art gothique. Leurs thèmes sont exclusivement religieux. Leur esthétique reste longtemps imprégnée d'un certain Byzantinisme mais ils évoluent doucement de "la peinture plate", bidimensionnelle, vers la "peinture pleine", tridimensionnelle. Leur art acquiert au fil du temps plus de profondeur, plus de volume, les physionomies se font plus expressives et plus diversifiées. Mais ils maintiennent tout au long de leur carrière jusqu'à la fin du 15è siècle une esthétique gothique, plus symbolique et synthétique que réaliste, qui privilégie la ligne et les contours nets plutôt que les volumes et les transitions douces. Un art qui est antérieur à la "maniera moderna" qui triomphe à la Renaissance, une manière plus naturaliste, plus proche du réel tel que l'homme le perçoit, et qui caractérise l'art européen à partir du 16è siècle jusqu'à l'art moderne. Lorenzo di Bicci (1350-1427) is the father of Bicci di Lorenzo (1373-1452) and the grandfather of Neri di Bicci (1458-1492). They were active in Florence in the second half of the 15th century. They belong to Gothic art. Their themes are exclusively religious. Their aesthetics remain for a long time impregnated with a certain Byzantinism but they evolve slowly from the "flat paint", two-dimensional, towards "full painting", three-dimensional. Their art acquires over time more depth, more volume, the faces are more expressive and more diversified. But they maintain throughout their career until the end of the 15th century a Gothic aesthetic, more symbolic and synthetic than realistic, which favors the line and sharp outlines rather than volumes and smooth transitions. An art that predates the "maniera moderna" that triumphed in the Renaissance, a more naturalistic way, closer to the real as man perceives it, and that characterizes European art from the 16th century until the 'modern Art.
